Rio de Janeiro & Salvador: Christmas and New Year in Brazil

Two weeks across the festive season in Brazil: a week on Copacabana's Avenida Atlântica, then a week in Salvador, with flights from Manchester.

This is a fortnight in Brazil timed to span Christmas and New Year, split evenly between two cities. You fly from Manchester with Air France, connecting through Paris Charles de Gaulle, and land at Rio de Janeiro Galeão on the evening of 21 December.

The first seven nights are at the five-star Miramar by Windsor Copacabana, set on Avenida Atlântica, the road that runs along Copacabana. I have chosen a Superior room with a double bed on a bed and breakfast basis, so your days are entirely your own, from slow breakfasts to evenings with the city lit up along the seafront.

On 28 December a short morning flight of around two hours takes you from Rio's Santos Dumont airport north to Salvador. Here you stay for seven nights at the four-star Sotero Hotel in the Stiep district, in a Superior Double room with a king bed, breakfast and WiFi included. It is where you will see the old year out and the new one in.

On the evening of 4 January you fly home from Salvador with Air France, again via Paris, arriving back in Manchester on the morning of 5 January.
