When the evenings in Britain draw in, Tenerife's north coast is a gentle place to find the sun again. The Hotel Blue Sea Interpalace sits in Puerto de la Cruz, looking out over the Atlantic, and I like it as an easy, unhurried base for a week away in November.

The rooms are bathed in natural light, with wooden floors, air conditioning, a private bathroom, satellite TV and a private balcony. Some look out to sea, and for a modest supplement I can arrange a sea-view double so the ocean is the first thing you see each morning.
